Mahomet graduates turn their tassels at Krannert Center
Mahomet-Seymour graduation at Krannert is the hottest ticket in town each May in Champaign. As the class size continues to grow (over 230 kids this year), Facebook is flooded with pleas to fellow senior parents looking for another ticket or two. Graduation is a big deal. And in a town like Mahomet where the involvement and support for these kids goes way beyond their immediate family there are a lot of people that want to attend and celebrate these kids as they walk across the stage.
One of my Sweet Lemonade VIP seniors had an extra ticket and they invited me to attend. That’s a HUGE deal! I was honored. They were hoping I’d be able to get a pic of their child walking across the stage. Well of course I’d want to do that. After scouting out the best location for pics, I decided a seat was not even necessary. I went up on the stage and stood in the doorway instead. It was a perfect spot to capture not only the one graduate who invited me get every single graduate accepting their diploma.
Most of the seniors smiled, accepted their diploma and exited the stage. And then there were some who knew I was there and gave me something a little extra. ha! I love the personalities of the seniors I’ve worked with this year. This graduation is a little bittersweet for me because this is the LAST graduating class before it is my own kid walking across the stage. How is that possible? Next year, I will be photographing my son in a cap and gown.
This graduating class has kids entering the work force right away, heading to college and some have joined the military. They all will go their separate ways but the memories they made together over the last four year at the high school in the classroom, sports and activities will never be forgotten.
Good luck to the class of 20219 as you chase your dreams and leave your own legacy in the world.
